NAO: Smart meter rollout is going slow and over budget

The UK government's ambitious plan to rollout smart meters to all households and small businesses by the end of 2025 has faced significant delays and cost overruns, according to a report by the National Audit Office (NAO).

The report highlights that energy companies have only completed 57 percent of the £13.5 billion project, almost four years past the original deadline.

France is the next stop on Netmore’s LoRaWAN expansion tour

DCC’s smart meter network passes 10 million milestone

The Data Communications Company (DCC) says it has now connected over 10 million smart meters in the UK.

DCC was granted a licence to build and manage its network in 2013 by the Department for Energy and Climate Change, now part of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Angus Flett, CEO of DCC, said:

Juniper Research: Active smart home devices will exceed 13B by 2025

A report from Juniper Research suggests the number of active smart home devices will exceed 13 billion by 2025.

For comparison, the analysts expect 7.4 billion devices will be active by the end of 2020. The rapid proliferation of smart home devices over the next five years is expected to be propelled by entertainment-related tech in particular.

Juniper expects smart entertainment devices alone will generate over $230 billion of revenue in 2025.
