A new survey by the IoT M2M Council has found growing Internet of Things deployments over the next year, but a decline in the next six months.
The Quarterly IoT Buyers’ Index (QIBI) survey includes over 12,000 enterprise users, app developers and OEMs. The latest survey asked executives to outline their IoT deployment purchase plans in six-month intervals.
On analysis, the survey found an 11.6% year-on-year increase in the number of executives planning to adopt IoT projects in the next 12 months. But it also found an around 4% decline in those looking to start IoT projects in the coming six months.
According to Alex Brisbourne, Chairman of the IMC and CEO of KORE Wireless, this expected decline in short-term sales could be due to the current economic volatility. He cautioned that only time will tell.
Despite the dip in projected near-term results, the survey did find strong growth in the number of major IoT deployments and for those that use long-range wireless connectivity. Large deployments involve over 1,000 devices.
Additionally, the survey showed that enterprise users are more bullish than developers and OEMs in the short term, and the energy sector is currently the most ready market to start projects.
The next QIBI will be available in January 2016.
